Sheikh Lotfolah Mosque


Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque is a masterpiece of architecture and tile works of the 17th century. Ordered by Shah Abbas I ,its construction lasted for 17 years and was dedicated to , Sheikh Lotfollah the Lebanese Shiite scholar who migrated to Isfahan. Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque is located in the eastern part of the Naghshe-Jahan Square square.

Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque is decorated by colorful (Haft-Rang) and Mo’arragh tiles and calligraphies. The dome of the mosque is covered by cream colored tiles. Extraordinary mosaics have been used the interior walls and ceilings of the mosque.

Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque does not have any minarets or courtyard, there  and the worshipers enter the prayer hall directly through a twisted hallway.
